On with the show!
Long time readers know of my love for this series but this issue hit every reason behind those feelings so well I feel its the perfect time to go back through and give accolades to all the wonderful parts of this comic.
First of all is Vince Hernandez’s completely original take on magical worlds. Every issue opens up a new corner or realm. While our hero Hank is discovering the twists turns and rules the readers are alongside for the natural discovery. No horribly written exposition here!
Every single character is a series unto themselves. In this issue Sha Lux is introduced and in her first panel hundreds of questions emerge. Who is she, how did she get to be so powerful, how on Earth or other dimensions is she so stunning? Good to see my friend Sparkles has a lot of the same feelings.
Next there is the very long and detailed plot. Things happen, characters fade in and out, yet through it all there is no doubt in my mind that Vince has a plan. Whether there is one more issue of Charismagic or a hundred there is a very intricate plan in place here. While I already had a feeling that that was true it came true upon the last page reveal. As a fan of Charismagic from the beginning this return was equal parts exciting and unexpected.
Magic is so often seen as the easy way out but the true magic is the hard work these creators make with each and every issue.
